Fire by Friction Workshop
June 2nd, 10am-5pm Used by all of our ancestors for cooking, warmth and light, fire still plays a tangible role in our daily lives. In this one-day workshop we will introduce the Bow Drill technique of fire by friction, a reliable and time tested fire making device. Participants will learn a variety of applicable skills like knife safety, woodcarving, material selection, and cordage making. It's a rewarding sensation to build a fire in this ancient way. After a bit of carving and elbow grease, an ember is born from the friction and blown into flames. With some practice this skill can be used to make a fire in diverse weather conditions with only locally available materials. To learn more about our instructors, go to the Meet Our Instructors page.
