A word on meals:
Breakfast and Dinner are included with your registration. Breakfast will be served at 8am; Dinner will be served at 6pm. You are responsible for lunches and snacks. We will do our best to have hot water on hand during the day for tea, etc, especially if it is cold. Meals will be simple, wholesome, all organic fare. Expect lots of vegetables and a protein at each meal. We will do our best to accommodate different dietary needs, but if you have dietary restrictions, we ask that you bring what you need to take care of yourself. We may not be able to accommodate every need and desire, but will do our best to provide a delicious and filling meal!
A note on our Kids Program:
We will be offering earth skills, crafts and activities at the Children's Camp! This is a family-friendly event, however, we ask parents to be responsible for their child/children. The Kids Program is not a babysitting service. Children under the age of five are asked to be with an adult at all times. Older children are invited to participate in the Kids Program, as well as in other classes, though it is suggested that you check in with the instructors, as parent participation may be necessary. We ask all participants to treat children with respect, and that children treat all adults with respect as well. We encourage young people to participate, as they are the ones who will carry these skills to the next generation, and have their own skill set to share.
Some thoughts on the weather:
The location of the gathering can be very fickle as far as weather is concerned. It may be 80 degrees during the day, and drop into the low 30s at night. King Mountain is at a fairly high elevation, and can be very cool. Please come prepared for all weather- everything from hot (bring sunscreen and a sunhat), to rainy and cold (bring rain jacket, wool or fleece, hat, and gloves). We will do our best to have a fire and shelter available for classes in the event that it is really cold. Preparedness is an essential first step to self-sufficiency!
A word on personal responsibility:
These skills encourage self-sufficiency and self-reliance. We ask that you come with this in mind, and that you take responsibility for your actions. Learning these skills does carry inherent risks; working with knives and other sharp tools, flint-knapping, fire-craft and hide-craft, as well as other skills, all have potential risks. Please pay attention to what you are doing, as well as be aware of what others are doing. We encourage personal responsibility and accountability. We are not only here to share and learn these “hard” skills but also to live in community for a short time with others where the “soft” skills of communication and respect are necessary. We are asking for your help to co-create a community vibe. Thank you for your attention to these details.
Dogs:
Dogs are allowed at The Sharpening Stone for an additional $45 per dog. Dog-owners, please know we are not against your animal, be aware that dogs are attracted to hides and animals in all forms- buckskins, rawhide, bones, furs, clothing, footwear. If you bring a dog, please be responsible and aware of them; a dog getting into the wrong thing will not be a happy animal!
THIS IS A DRUG AND ALCOHOL FREE GATHERING!
We are here to learn and be in community together in a respectful manner- We encourage celebrating without the use of these substances.
